Stars twinkle and wink,
far ahead and above in the black.
He looks up, thinking back to a time
when someone's eyes beat the stars,
and the life he saw there was brighter,
and he wished he knew how it was so.
A voice fills his ears and he turns.
There she is, the life still in her eyes,
shimmering as she smiles, running to him.
A quick hug, his surprised face, and she laughs.
"It's been years," she says with a gentle smile.
He nods, and a smile brushes his lips as he watches her.
Her, looking at him with a teasing smile, bright eyes.
Why didn't he ever see? Couldn't ever see?
Her smile, so bright and true.
Her laughter, with all its changing tones.
Her eyes, mysterious black and brown and sweet.
Her, her self, who she is in this world.
His thoughts are broken at her touch
as her fingers slid off his shoulder, a final farewell.
She waves as she runs to catch up,
wrapping her arm around the other young man again.
Eyes closed, mouth smiling and laughing,
and he watches them walk away,
vanishing into the night again like so many others.

In the Mirror
She cracks the door just an inch, peering through the crack into the darkness of the room beyond. Lightning flashes through the window, illuminating vague figures standing still. Fingers twitching, mind racing, heart pounding, she pushes through the door and reaches to grab the nearest figure. The white fabric slips silently off as she touches it, revealing the chair underneath. A wry grin finds its way onto her face and she moves through the room. Dust bunnies run from her falling footsteps, jumping quickly then slowly drifting back to the floor. She slides the cloth from several pieces, a table, a couch, more chairs, a trunk, a vanity.

For Danna. Sorry.
The kitchen was a mess. Bowls were strewn over the countertops, dirty dishes everywhere. Salad ingredients lay wilting on the table and a pot of soup was decomposing on the stove. Michelle and Yael were cooking. Their mother would have told them to clean up as they went, not to make such a big mess. But they didn’t have to worry about that right now.
“Okay, yeah, so just mix that-“
“Got it”
“And…now add four tablespoons lemon juice.”
“Four ta-like, are you positive? That’s a lot of lemon juice.“
“Oh no, no, okay wait, I lied, teaspoons”

there was a boy once, who I thought I loved. I was hurt when it went away, and I haven't quiet forgotten him since. But I believe one day this might happen, at least the idea behind it, and I will emerge the one with the prize of love.
